The mission statement of this credit union is to prudently promote and serve the genuine financial needs of our members with trust, education, and dignity.
Founded in 1934, Spokane City Credit Union first began as an occupational based credit union for City employees. Originally called City Employees Credit Union of Spokane, our goal was to provide premium services while providing friendly customer service. In 1978, the membership was broadened to include employees of the Spokane Transit Authority. A few years later in 1980, we changed our name to Spokane City Credit Union and extended our membership to anyone who lives, works, worships, or goes to school in the State of Washington.
Although we have grown throughout the years, we have never lost focus of our goal. Members of this credit union have access to a wide range of services and benefits. These have evolved through time to provide the highest quality of financial services and competitive interest rates.
Spokane City Credit Union, a non-profit financial cooperative, is incorporated by the State of Washington. This credit union' bylaws define our purpose to ''promote thrift among its members and create a source of credit for them at legitimate rates of interest for provident, productive, and educational purposes.''
The Credit Union Difference
In 1935, when credit unions were helping Americans through the Great Depression, the treasurer of a Midwestern credit union said that credit unions were "not for profit, not for charity, but for service," and that philosophy holds true today.
Credit unions continue to look out for their members' interests and provide a level of service that is not generally available at other financial institutions. Credit Union for Kids benefiting Children's Miracle Network
Twice a year, Spokane area credit unions join together in efforts to raise money for Children's Miracle Network of Hospitals. Going by the name Credit Unions for Kids, this group has raised money through selling tickets to Spokane Chiefs and Spokane Indians Baseball games, holding silent auctions the same events, collecting donations from its members, and more. Since its inception and thanks partly to your contributions, Credit Union for Kids has raised over $1.2 million benefiting local kids in need. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you.
The Spokane Public Library Foundation
The Foundation supports the strategic directions of the library and helps to build and encourage partnerships that strengthen our community. The Spokane Public Library Foundation's primary mission is to enhance programming, services and resources offered by the Spokane Public Library through advocacy, partnerships and private dollars to ensure the library's excellence.
Make A Splash In a Kids Life
Help make this a summer to remember for our local children. Make A Splash In a Kids Life helps children in the Spokane area by giving them a chance to learn how to swim and helps them gain access our local pools by providing them with pool passes and the apparel needed to be safe. Spokane City Credit Union believes that every child should have a chance to make a splash. That is why we have supported Make A Splash. since 2007.
